Tax preparation in Greensboro: compare the help you need

Choose Greensboro tax preparation by the return and supporting work you need, then check the person doing it. A practice may offer personal returns, entity filing, bookkeeping and ITIN assistance on the same website. These are separate services, and they do not all establish the same credentials or representation rights.

This guide compares actual local service descriptions to help you define an engagement. The examples are not FSI listings, recommendations or confirmation that a firm is accepting clients. Their published services were reviewed on 1 November 2026; confirm the details directly.

Separate the services in your request

Your requirement What the proposal needs to specify
Personal return preparation The years, states and information covered, plus the named preparer and review process.
Self-employed or entity work Which business and owner returns are included and whether the accounts are ready for preparation.
Bookkeeping or ongoing accounting The records work, reporting and frequency, separately from the annual return.
ITIN application help Whether the service is offered by an IRS-approved acceptance agent or certifying acceptance agent and what that role covers.
Questions or representation after filing The person responsible, their relevant status and whether this is included or a separate engagement.

For example, a quote for a personal return should not be read as including an ITIN application or an entity return unless those services are identified. Equally, a provider's ability to help with one document process does not settle who should prepare a complex business return.

What the Greensboro examples actually offer

The following first-party pages give three useful starting points for a scope comparison. They do not establish an order of quality. [1][2][3]

Provider's page Published emphasis A useful distinction to resolve
NS CPA Individual and business tax work alongside accounting and related business services. Ask which return types and supporting records work the proposed engagement includes.
Navarro / GWN CPA tax preparation and planning Preparation and planning presented together within a broader accounting practice. Identify the actual planning deliverables rather than assuming the preparation quote includes continuing advice.
CIMATAX Greensboro Personal and business tax services, bilingual service information and advertised ITIN/CAA assistance. Check the language arrangements, the individual handling each task and current IRS acceptance-agent approval separately from preparation credentials.

The CIMATAX service description is a reported provider claim, not our verification of current CAA approval. Likewise, a practice's name or menu is not verification of an individual licence. Check the person and the service you intend to buy.

ITIN assistance is a separate function

An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number application and a tax return can involve connected work, but they are not interchangeable engagements. The IRS explains that approved acceptance agents can help with Form W-7 and submit an application package. A certifying acceptance agent can authenticate certain supporting documents and return authenticated documents immediately. [4]

That document-authentication function has exceptions: the IRS excludes foreign military identification cards, and for dependents it limits the documents a CAA may authenticate to passports and birth certificates. Do not assume that every document can remain with you throughout the process. Ask which originals or other documents are required for your particular application. [4]

The IRS also says agents prepare tax returns if they offer that service. Establish whether return preparation is included, separately quoted or handled by someone else. Use the IRS acceptance-agent information and list to check approval, then confirm the actual practitioner and process. Approval as an acceptance agent does not by itself establish CPA or EA status or general IRS representation rights. [4][5]

Before sending identity documents, request secure handling instructions and a clear explanation of who receives them, what is returned and how the application and return work are coordinated.

Match the quote to your actual records

For a personal return, describe the years and states involved and any business interests or unusual information the preparer needs to assess. For self-employed or entity work, explain whether the starting point is organized accounts, a partially reconciled ledger or uncategorized transactions.

A preparation-only fee based on completed accounts is different from a quote that includes bookkeeping cleanup. Ask the provider to separate those items. If your business and personal returns are handled by different people, identify who sends the entity information, who checks it for the personal return and who follows up when something is missing.

The useful comparison is a written list of outputs and responsibilities. It should cover the included returns, review, record corrections, planning meetings and after-filing questions. Do not infer a Greensboro average fee from a provider's lowest advertised price or assume one credential always costs more. For ongoing business advice, the planning-fee guide shows how to compare the scope.

Verify the practitioner and continuing support

Use the NC Board's consumer information to check CPA status and relevant experience, including the appropriate authorization context for qualifying out-of-state practitioners. For an EA, follow the IRS status-verification process. Ask who prepares the work and who reviews it if different people are involved. [6][7]

Then ask a practical after-filing question: if you receive a notice about this return, who would you contact and what would the engagement cover? Preparation, answering a question and representing you before the IRS are different responsibilities. A service menu does not establish that all three are included. The credential comparison explains representation distinctions. [5]

If you need recurring advice rather than only a completed return, define the projections, meetings or analysis you want. The planning versus preparation guide helps separate those deliverables.

Questions about Greensboro tax preparation

Does CAA status mean someone is a CPA or enrolled agent?

No. Acceptance-agent approval concerns the ITIN application function described by the IRS. Verify any CPA or EA credential separately, along with relevant return-preparation experience and the actual services offered. [4][5]

How much should I expect to pay?

Request quotes for the same work: returns, states, years, records cleanup, ITIN work where needed and support after filing. This guide does not establish a local average. A useful quote makes separate work and change approvals clear so you can compare it with another proposal.

Where can I find free help instead?

The North Carolina tax-help guide links to official self-filing options and IRS free-assistance resources. Check eligibility, the tax year and the site's return limitations before assuming it can handle your situation. It also separates NCDOR refund and account questions from independent preparation advice.
