Choose Statesboro business tax help around a bankruptcy operating report
If your business has an existing bankruptcy reporting requirement, define the report before asking a Statesboro practitioner to prepare it. A profit statement, cash forecast and monthly operating report can use different populations and measures. The proposal should explain how the preparer will produce the particular report and identify questions requiring review.
Financial Sales Insider focuses on established owners with annual personal income before tax of at least $500,000, preferably $1 million or more. Business debts, assets and a bankruptcy case do not establish that income. This guide concerns reporting and tax help for an existing case; it does not recommend entering bankruptcy.
Define the existing case and the report requested
Dabbs, Hickman, Hill & Cannon's bankruptcy-services page expressly offers monthly operating reports, projected financial statements, cash-flow budgets and asset verification. It publishes Statesboro and Savannah offices. [1] Those are specific outputs to discuss rather than assume they come with routine tax preparation.
Give the prospective preparer the debtor's identity, court and case number, reporting period, case status and actual request. Have counsel and the appropriate court or U.S. Trustee confirm the applicable report and current requirements. Do not select a form from the city address or a casual description of your company as small.
The U.S. Trustee Program distinguishes its general Chapter 11 report forms from Official Form 425C for small-business and Subchapter V cases before plan confirmation. It directs those debtors to the district U.S. Trustee for post-confirmation requirements. [2] The form discussed below is a conditional example, not a determination of your case's reporting route.
Ask how the case date changes the reporting populations
The captured December 2017 Form 425C makes an important distinction. Its unpaid-bills section concerns unpaid debts incurred since the case was filed. Its customer-receivables section includes amounts owed from both before and after filing. [3]
Those are different cuts of the records. Ask how the proposed work will identify when an unpaid obligation arose and establish which customer amounts remain outstanding. An unfiltered accounts-payable export and an unfiltered receivables export should not be assumed to answer their respective questions in the same way.
Request an explanation of the reporting population, supporting records and unresolved dates. If the records do not establish when an obligation arose, have that uncertainty identified for the appropriate review. Do not guess a legal classification simply to finish the schedule.
The useful output lets the responsible reviewer understand which amounts were examined and why they belong in the proposed report. Ask what reconstruction or clarification is included when earlier records cannot support that explanation. This is a report-preparation scope question, rather than advice about which debts may be paid.
Separate the cash report from profit and bank balance
Form 425C separately addresses cash activity for all accounts, net cash flow and closing cash. It cautions that net cash flow can differ from net profit and closing cash can differ from the bank balance. Its supporting cash lists also reach beyond amounts already posted at the bank. [3]
Ask the preparer to explain the opening position, the period's cash activity and closing position using the evidence requested for the report. Which records capture relevant cash not yet deposited or payments made by another party? How will missing activity and differences be investigated?
Request the explanation alongside the proposed figures. A bank balance may be useful supporting information, but it should not silently substitute for every cash measure. Equally, an accounting profit should not be copied into a cash-flow field without the required assessment.
Check the comparison with the previous projection
The form compares actual cash receipts and disbursements with the previous projection, then asks separately for the next month's projection. [3]
Ask the proposal to include that comparison. Keep the earlier projection identifiable so the reviewer can see what was expected and what occurred. Request explanations of significant differences and the assumptions behind the next forecast. Replacing an earlier expectation with today's figures would obscure the comparison you commissioned.
This work should explain the reporting period and unresolved questions. It does not establish taxable income, a deduction, available funds for an owner payment or permission to borrow.
Agree what the responsible party will review
Form 425C contains a responsible-party declaration covering the report and attachments, together with questions requiring explanations in specified circumstances. [3] Ask who prepares the draft, supporting schedules and unresolved-answer list, and how these reach the person responsible for review.
Keep preparation separate from legal and procedural authority. Region 21's February 2026 guidelines address professional retention and compensation as well as reporting. [4] Have counsel address the appointment, accepted role and payment requirements for the actual case. A service page does not establish court approval, legal representation or authority to sign and file.
Compare the actual Statesboro service scopes
DHHC's express monthly-report offer provides a reason to ask about the populations and comparisons above. Confirm the responsible practitioner and exact work. Its description of experience assisting different bankruptcy participants does not establish an appointment in your case. [1]
Reddick, Riggs, Hunter & Colson's extensive services page describes accounting, forecasts, cash-flow analysis, debt advice and tax planning. [5] C. Doug Collins' planning page describes year-round planning and recordkeeping support. [6] Ask about the actual report assignment directly; broad services neither automatically include it nor prove the firm cannot provide it.
These are attributed public descriptions checked on October 31, 2026, not rankings, recommendations or confirmation of credentials, capacity or an FSI relationship.
Keep the tax assignment separately defined
DHHC also markets projections, return preparation and tax-agency representation. [7] Establish which entity and owner tax work is accepted alongside the report. A completed monthly report does not establish that returns were filed, taxes paid or every tax question resolved.
You can prepare the wider business and owner tax records for that discussion, then compare fees for separately defined tax work. Those resources do not provide a sufficient court-report packet, bankruptcy-report prices or approval of professional compensation.
Questions before commissioning reporting and tax work
Is a bank statement or profit report the monthly operating report?
Do not treat them as interchangeable. Confirm the actual requested report, populations, measures, supporting information and review. The conditional Form 425C example distinguishes cash, profit, bank balance and case-date information. [3]
Does a bankruptcy-service page establish court appointment?
No appointment follows from the description. Confirm the professional's actual role and have counsel address the applicable retention, compensation and reporting requirements before relying on the engagement.
Describe the existing reporting and tax assignment
Summarize your business, personal pretax income range, existing case, report requested and current professionals. Keep confidential case records and identification information out of the initial inquiry. Fit, availability and engagement terms require confirmation.
Describe my business tax needs
CPA and EA firms can discuss participation separately.
