Compare business tax planning for your Alpharetta company
If you own an established software or IT-services business in Alpharetta, the phrase tax planning can describe several different engagements. A firm may offer business and owner projections, emphasize tax-problem resolution, or coordinate financial planning while another professional handles the tax advice and returns. Choose the work around your actual decision.
Financial Sales Insider focuses on owners with annual personal income before tax of at least $500,000, preferably $1 million or more. Company revenue, profit and a technology job title are different measures. This guide compares actual public service descriptions and gives you a practical test for the engagement you need.
Read the local service descriptions as different assignments
The following observations come from provider pages checked on October 30, 2026. They describe marketed services, not confirmed availability, independently verified credentials or FSI partner status. They are not a ranking or a recommendation to appoint any provider.
Entity and owner planning
Vincent Keith Everson CPA LLC's Alpharetta business-tax page describes planning by entity type, owner compensation, estimated taxes, business growth and quarter-by-quarter reviews. [1] That is a relevant starting point if you need the operating business and owner position considered together.
Ask which analyses belong in the proposed initial engagement and which require an ongoing arrangement. For a software company, make the product and contract questions below explicit. A broad planning description does not establish that every sales-tax classification or billing-system review is included.
A broader strategy discussion
The Goldstein Firm's Alpharetta planning article presents a range of tax-strategy themes, including income timing, retirement and estate matters. [2] A strategy menu can help start a conversation, but it does not define the deliverables for your company.
Give the firm a specific assignment: the entity, the owner situation, the decision and the records available. Ask what written analysis and implementation work it proposes. Do not treat a strategy mentioned on a website as a conclusion that it applies to you.
Representation and notice work
Robert Franko's page markets services to Alpharetta and nearby areas and emphasizes IRS and state representation, collection matters and related tax-problem work alongside preparation and planning. [3]
If your immediate concern is a notice or unresolved liability, ask whether that assignment needs a separate scope from ongoing business planning. If your main concern is the treatment of software revenue, confirm who will perform that analysis. A professional's representation offer does not by itself describe a product-classification engagement.
Financial planning alongside the tax adviser
Cinder Wealth's Alpharetta owner page says it is based in Cumming and works with owners across Alpharetta and North Fulton. It describes coordinating business and personal financial decisions with the owner's CPA and other specialists. It also states that it does not prepare tax returns and is not a licensed tax professional. [4]
That is a different service arrangement from appointing a practitioner to assess tax treatment and prepare returns. If you want wider financial coordination, ask which professional remains responsible for the tax analysis, calculations and filings. Do not assume every provider using planning language performs the same work.
Give the tax practitioner one real product agreement to assess
For a software or IT business, prepare a short revenue map before requesting a proposal. Separate the products, licenses, support, implementation and other services you actually sell. Include a sample agreement and invoice, the delivery method and the rights the customer receives.
Ask the practitioner to explain which questions need investigation and what evidence is missing. You are assessing whether the proposed scope fits your business, rather than asking for an unsupported answer from a product label.
Delivery evidence and customer rights matter
Georgia's software rule says electronically delivered computer software is not subject to sales or use tax under that provision, but the invoice, purchase contract or other documentation must indicate the delivery method. Without that documentation, the rule presumes tangible delivery and puts the burden on the taxpayer to establish electronic delivery. It also addresses a transaction where the same software is supplied electronically and in a tangible medium, with an exception for qualifying custom software. [5]
Georgia separately regulates digital products, goods and codes. That rule lists SaaS among its exclusions, while defining other categories and conditions for taxable digital transactions, including customer rights of permanent use. [6] Selling something online therefore does not establish that it is exempt software or SaaS.
Ask for the reasoning to connect the agreement, delivery evidence and actual customer rights with the applicable rule. A change to an invoice label cannot substitute for understanding what you sell. Georgia's treatment also does not settle obligations arising from customers or activity in another state.
Compare the written response before you appoint anyone
Send the same concise business summary to the providers you choose to approach. State whether you need recurring projections, a defined tax question, a notice response or coordination with an existing adviser. Keep the business's tax treatment and your personal owner-income range distinct.
Compare who will do the work, what they will deliver and what happens after a recommendation. For a product review, ask who confirms the tax analysis and who implements approved changes in contracts, invoices or billing settings. Identify any bookkeeper, lawyer or software-provider dependency before assuming the tax engagement includes it.
For a wider planning relationship, ask how the business analysis reaches your owner forecast and when material changes trigger an update. Confirm relevant credentials separately from specialist experience; the IRS explains the different preparer qualifications and representation rights. [7]
You can prepare the wider planning documents after the assignment is defined and compare tax-planning fees by deliverable. Neither a public service menu nor an initial consultation establishes the full price or scope.
Questions before choosing the engagement
Does an Alpharetta planning page prove that every service is available locally?
No. Confirm the actual professional, office or remote arrangement, capacity and engagement scope directly. A regional service description and a city office are different things. The observations above do not establish that the providers are FSI partners or that they can accept your work now.
Does online delivery make every sale exempt in Georgia?
No blanket conclusion follows. Have the practitioner distinguish the actual software, SaaS, services and digital-product rights using the applicable rules and records. Do not apply a software exclusion to a different product merely because both are delivered online. [5][6]
Describe the decision and the help you want
Explain what your business sells, your ownership and personal pretax income range, your existing advisers and the decision ahead. Professional fit, availability and terms require confirmation before appointment.
Describe my business tax needs
CPA and EA firms can discuss participation separately.
