Business tax planning in West Palm Beach for a yacht purchase

A yacht purchase can introduce a large assumption into an established owner's cash plan: whether the proposed Florida sales-tax treatment has actually been reviewed. An LLC name, foreign flag or promise of movement documentation does not supply that conclusion.

When comparing West Palm Beach tax advisers, ask who reviews the actual purchaser and people behind it before relying on the purchase forecast. Keep that assignment separate from the books and reporting required if a genuine operating activity follows.

FSI focuses on business owners with annual personal income before tax of at least $500,000, preferably $1 million or more. Vessel price, company revenue and household assets do not establish that income.

Start with the owner purchase and proposed use

Describe the real proposed purchase: the buyer, delivery arrangements, intended locations and use, and people involved in ownership or control. State whether the proposal concerns personal use, an actual business activity or unresolved plans. Owning a business does not turn a personal yacht into a business asset.

Consider an illustrative owner whose purchase forecast assumes nonresident treatment. The seller's proposal names an entity, while the owner's accountant has only a broad description of who manages it. A movement schedule has been discussed, but the underlying purchaser question remains open.

The next useful output is an explanation of whether that assumption is supported, what facts are missing and which review has been accepted. More operating reports will not resolve an unanswered purchase question.

Compare the actual West Palm Beach planning offers

The inspected offers provide different starting points. Perry CPA Group describes planning across personal income, business activities, investments and estate matters. Garcia describes outsourced accounting, planning, payroll and CFO reporting. Hough, Gelfand describes year-round entity and individual tax work alongside recurring business services. Ask which proposed purchase work each would accept. [2][3][4]

Strydom & Partners supplies a more specific challenge. Its asset page advertises yacht-purchase sales and use tax planning, LLC or trust ownership, flag selection and movement documentation. It separately describes operating budgets, crew payroll, reporting and charter accounting. Its private-client page adds family-office and personal-CFO work; its homepage says legal, regulated investment and insurance work is coordinated with licensed specialists. [5][6][7]

Those are substantial published offers, not confirmation that a structure produces a benefit. These examples are attributed descriptions, not rankings, verified credentials, FSI partners or available appointments. Geographic claims and the current responsible team require direct confirmation.

Test the purchaser and control facts before the structure label

Florida's published boat-purchase provision concerns a sale by or through a registered dealer. The individual branch addresses nonresidence, permanent abode and specified Florida employment or business-use circumstances. The corporate branch asks whether any officers or directors are Florida residents or have their permanent abode there. The noncorporate branch instead addresses individuals vested with management, direction or control authority and their Florida residence or permanent abode. These are separate branches, not one universal individual-use test. [1]

For the illustrative owner, an out-of-state registration document may name directors without establishing where they live or maintain their permanent abode. If the actual purchaser falls within the noncorporate branch, a directors list may miss people vested with the relevant management or control authority. Ask the responsible reviewers to establish the purchaser category, relevant people and their actual residence and abode facts. Do not assign an LLC or trust to a branch from its name.

This changes the commissioning discussion: which people-and-residence facts support the proposed purchase treatment, and which remain missing? Registration or movement paperwork alone may leave that question unanswered. Request the qualified review and explanation before treating the forecast as concluded. This guide selects no structure or exemption.

Separate the conditional purchase route from continuing operations

Florida's provision also contains removal, timing, documentary and dealer conditions. Its boat categories and aircraft provisions differ; one familiar deadline is not a complete route. Failure to satisfy applicable conditions can have tax and penalty consequences. [1]

Ask the reviewer to distinguish underlying purchaser eligibility from the applicable process and evidence. Neither an intended departure nor a folder of registration documents substitutes for the other questions.

Then identify any genuine continuing activity needing its own scope. Charter accounting, vessel operating reports and business-owner planning are separately advertised services. Their inclusion does not itself establish purchase treatment, business status or a federal deduction.

Agree who reviews removal and documentary dependencies

If the conditional route is being considered, request an explanation of the purchaser and selling-dealer responsibilities, the actual boat category and evidence needed. Agree who confirms the relevant facts before documents are signed. A general assurance that someone handles the paperwork leaves those responsibilities unclear. [1]

Ask how a changed buyer, controlling person or intended use reaches the reviewer. The response should explain whether earlier advice remains usable and what additional work is needed. This is a scope comparison, not instructions to sign an affidavit, obtain a decal or move a vessel.

Keep the purchase assumption visible in the owner plan

Have the accepted tax reviewer explain what the existing business and owner team can rely on. Separate a supported conclusion from a provisional assumption and from work assigned to another specialist.

The owner can then understand which purchase figures remain uncertain and how the commitment fits alongside continuing business and personal cash needs. A consolidated report is useful only when its material assumptions are understood.

The Florida business filing overview provides broader state context. It does not determine the vessel purchase or operating treatment.

Questions before commissioning purchase advice

Is an LLC or foreign flag enough to assume a tax-free yacht purchase?

No conclusion follows from either label alone. Ask which purchaser branch is relevant and which actual people, use and process facts the engaged reviewer needs.

How do corporate officers and noncorporate control facts change the Florida purchase review?

The corporate branch concerns officers' and directors' Florida residence or permanent abode. The noncorporate branch concerns those facts for individuals vested with management, direction or control authority. Ask which people and facts the actual purchaser review needs; its registration address does not answer that question. [1]

Who handles removal evidence versus forward business and owner planning?

Agree the purchase-review and documentary responsibilities separately from the continuing owner calculation. Confirm who communicates an unresolved condition or changed fact before the forecast is relied on.

Does the same engagement cover charter accounting?

Confirm the actual services accepted. Purchase advice, operating records and any charter tax analysis can require different assignments. A published service list does not establish their inclusion in your proposal.

Describe the help your business needs

Tell FSI about your business, the proposed purchase, intended use, existing support and unresolved tax assumption. An inquiry does not confirm a specialist, introduction, appointment, fee or accepted assignment.

Describe my business tax needs

CPA and enrolled agent firm inquiries are separate. The owner-income focus does not apply to firms.
