Compare tax planning lead generation providers

Compare what creates the inquiry, what your firm receives and what you must do next before comparing a provider's headline offer.

A service selling contact records, a marketing agency handling replies and a tool assessing visitors to your own website can all use the word leads. They leave your firm with different responsibilities. Define the business-owner client and the service you want to grow before deciding which model fits.

Financial Sales Insider's intended owner audience has annual personal income before tax of at least $500,000, preferably $1 million or more. A provider's company-revenue, asset or profession filter does not establish that personal-income level. CPA and EA firms themselves have no personal-income threshold for discussing participation.

Identify how the opportunity is created

Ask what prompts the person to appear in the provider's system. Did they request tax help, respond to outreach, complete an assessment or simply appear in a purchased list? Ask what they were told about the next contact and which firm or service they expected to hear from.

Then ask what is delivered: a record, a positive reply, a completed inquiry, an assessed opportunity or an agreed appointment. Request the definitions and the information that supports them. A provider's qualification label is only useful when your team understands the underlying criteria.

Three published models illustrate the differences

The examples below describe the providers' own published pages checked on October 29, 2026. They are examples of different models, not recommendations, a comprehensive market list or a tested ranking. Provider statements have not been independently audited.

Provider example What its page describes Question for your firm
Newlead Cold-email outreach for accounting firms, delivery of interested replies and meeting booking as a separate add-on [1]. Does a reply show the owner wants the planning engagement you provide, and who handles the next conversation?
TaxMadeEazy A CPA pilot using branded tax assessments, intent scoring and routing [2]. Where do visitors come from, what does the assessment establish and what parts of the pilot are actually available?
Lead Search Pros, California tax page A state-focused tax and accounting lead offer spanning preparation and other services [3]. Can the actual requests be distinguished from routine filing or resolution work and matched to your owner-planning criteria?

Read the current provider's terms and confirm the offered service directly. A branded assessment does not, by itself, explain how visitors are acquired. A reply is not an appointment, and a state label does not establish owner income or specialist suitability.

Ask to see the qualification definition

Set out the criteria your firm would use before asking a provider how it qualifies opportunities. Include ownership role, personal income where relevant, business activity, the issue, timing and locations. Distinguish information supplied by the prospect from information independently checked.

Ask what happens with unknown answers, conflicting information and requests outside the service scope. A useful sample record should make those gaps visible. An impressive-looking score cannot explain what was actually established.

If your firm focuses on a particular industry, ask how that industry is identified. A business category can be a useful starting point, but it does not establish that the person is an owner or that your team can accept the proposed work.

Examine sharing, duplicates and contact expectations

Ask how many firms may receive the same opportunity and what the person has been told. For an exclusive description, establish the service category, geography, period and any exceptions in writing.

Clarify how the provider identifies an existing client, a prior conversation or the same person appearing through another source. Ask when such an issue should be reported, what records are needed and how the provider will assess it. Do not assume a replacement, refund or credit is included.

Consider the owner's experience as well as your firm's. Confusing contact expectations or several uncoordinated approaches can make the next conversation harder, even when a record contains the right industry and location.

Compare the complete commercial commitment

Ask for the total scope and conditions: setup, participation, media, tools, inquiries, appointments and support where those items apply. Establish what the firm must supply, which work the provider performs and when additional charges can arise.

Check cancellation, renewal, data access and any review or replacement process against the actual written agreement. Compare the same event across providers. A cost per contact cannot be treated as a cost per attended, suitable consultation without further evidence.

Use your own outcomes to evaluate the service. Record contactable inquiries, suitable conversations, proposals and accepted engagements with consistent definitions. No provider's published client result establishes what your firm will achieve.

Keep claims and evidence separate

Ask for the period, population and definition behind a performance claim. Does a number describe accounting firms buying the provider's service, or business owners responding to campaigns? Does a result include tax preparation, bookkeeping or another service outside your intended engagement?

Ask whether a case is representative and which costs or responsibilities are excluded. Treat an example as an example until the relevant facts have been established for your firm. Avoid presenting a vendor's testimonial as proof of an FSI service or a forecast for your practice.

Prepare the comparison before choosing

For each provider, write a short answer to five questions: what creates the inquiry, what arrives, what fit information is known, what your team does next and what the full commitment involves. Keep unanswered questions on the record.

Discuss Financial Sales Insider participation using the same approach. Confirm the actual available service, conditions and responsibilities for your firm. This page does not state that FSI supplies any particular provider's model, pricing or performance.
